Biographical Notes |
Note: In the 1871 census of Brixham, Devon, Jack was the youngest living child of Jon Carey, a Baptist minister, and Charlotte Reynolds. Charlotte had died in 1870 when Jack was only two years old. He probably didn't remember his mother. Six months after Charlotte died, Jon Carey remarried Lucy Yeo and had five more children: Lucy Eliza, Mary Elizabeth, Henry Ernest, Ada Jane, and Leonard Richard Yeo Carey.
In the 1881 census, the Careys were living in Castle Street, Tiverton, Devon. Jack was 12 years old. His father was Baptist minister of the Newport Street Chapel in Tiverton. Jack was the oldest child in the household. He had five half-brothers and sisters ranging in age from two to nine.
I can't find Jack in the English census reports after 1881.
