Note: Jean attended Melbourne High School. When the family moved to Sydney she worked for Winchombe and Castle, a wool firm, then for Nanco, a wool firm in Newcastle. She met John William Stewart through an old friend. John had given up studies in commercial art to join the army and contacted Jean while on leave from training at Greta. They fell in love and married at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Newcastle in 1944. John saw service in India, Egypt And New Guinea from 1940-45 as a dispatch rider and while at war painted many watercolour scenes of his experiences. After the war he inherited part of his father's property at Berrigan, and returned to farming. They later retired to Albury. John continued to paint and also made models and steam engines. John died in Albury on 31.5.1998, aged 87. Jean continued to drive until she was 93. She moved into Murrayvale UPA Retirement village in 2006
