Note: Joseph Piggott was an agricultural labourer in the district where he, his wife Ann and all of their children were born: Haddenham in Buckinghamshire. Their address in 1871 was Fort End. Most of the girls and women in their neighbourhood, including Ann, Emily and Sarah, were lace makers. Only young Polly, seven years, was a scholar.
Next to the Joseph Piggott family lived Betsy Piggott (35) and her five children. Her 13-year-old boy Charles was an agricultural labourer. Childhood didn't last long.
By the 1901 census Joseph has died, but widowed Ann is still living in Haddenham close to her daughter Sarah and Edwin Dakin; and she is still making lace.
