Note: In the 1861 English census Henry was 18 years old. He lived with his parents and siblings at the Hulme Cavalry Barracks in Hulme, Lancashire, where his father was a master training master of horses.
By 1871 Henry, now 28, is a bank manager who lives on Oldham Road in Middleton, Lancashire, with his sister Harrietta 30. Both are unmarried. They have a servant named Eliza Olive.
By the 1881 census Henry had married Hannah, and they had one son who was called Henry B. Little Henry was born about 1878 in Oldham. At this time Henry's brother William G. Kauntze, a bank clerk, was living with them at their home on Manchester Street.
By 1891 two more sons had been born to the Kauntzes. Edward was born about 1882; and Charles was born about 1884. Both Edward nine years and Charles seven years were scholars; in fact they had a governess who instructed them at home.
It is possible that Henry B., their first born, was in a boarding school.
By 1901 Henry 58 and Harriett 48 lived at 99 Windsor Road in Oldham. Henry was still working as a bank manager. The couple had two domestic servants, one a cook.
A Henry Kauntze (Caunce) died in Chorley, Lancashire, in 1912. This could be our Henry.
