Biographical Notes |
Note: Henry Yeo was a farmer in Devonshire near Barnstaple at a village called Arlington. He had been born near there about 1796. Henry married Ann [whose surname we do not know] about 1821 and had a large family. In the 1841 English census Henry 45 years and Ann 40 years had ten children who ranged in age from eighteen to one. Lucy was the baby. They had only one other child after Lucy, and that was Samuel.
In the 1851 census we learn that Brindscombe [or Brimcombe], the Yeo farm, was quite large. Henry had either 1200 or 200 acres [it was difficult to read] and employed two labourers. At that time he had sons Henry Jr, 20 years, and George, 17 years, at home to help him with the farming work.
By the 1861 census Ann had died, leaving Henry 67 years a widower with two sons and two daughters at home. They are William 33, Henry Jr 28, Elizabeth 24 and Lucy 20. This time Henry gives as his place of birth Stoke River.
