Note: William was educated at Rawdon College, which was a Baptist college located in West Yorkshire. In 1884 he was appointed to the mission field. His designation took place in 1885 at Bloomsbury Chapel in London. He was sent to Bengal and was instrumental in founding the Bengal Sunday School Union. He has also been the pioneer of the Christian Endeavour movement there. His chief work, at Barisal and at Dacca, has been mainly among the students of the government schools. In 1963 Rawdon College and Manchester College amalgamated to become the Northern Baptist College in Manchester. Previously in 1904 Rawdon became affiliated with Leeds University.
