Note: John L. Stevers' parents came to this country at an early date (1830) when there were no roads, mills, schools or churches; they grated their own corn on a grater, and sieved it through a grater; wild beasts were very plentiful, and Mr. Stevers' mother (Eliza Evans) says she has heard the panthers scream at night, and the howl of the wolf; they had to use a great deal of care to raise their sheep. They made their own clothing out of flax and wool.
