Note: "One day my brother Arthur and I went for a walk and heard cattle coming. Arthur said, "Oh, my word, we'd better cut," so he started off; but they came up quickly. There were hundreds of cattle. They went through Beltanta on their way down from the north. It was almost lunch time. Arthur climbed a tree. He didn't come home for lunch. We wouldn't make out where he was. When he did come home, Mother said, "Where have you been, you naughty boy?" "Well," he said, "the cattle all went to sleep under the tree, so I was stuck there."
One day Arthur and I went out on horse back. I had a spindly legged old horse called Burchell. His legs went everywhere. Didn't matter - it was the only one I could get. He was like a camel. Arthur was on the other one. When we got near the race course the horses started to run. We didn't know what to do but hang on! They knew the place. We found that they had raced there the day before."
Note: "He was a big man and dark. I met him while playing cricket in Queensland. His son Arthur was tall and goodlooking. May have been an accountant."
