Note: After the death of her father in 1887, Sophie along with Alice and Gilbert went to live with their aunt and uncle, Blanche and George Buttfield. When Mabel was about sixteen years old, she accidentally lost her hand in the chaff cutter.
After George died, Blanche Buttfield moved to her inherited home at Magill which was called "The Nook." Mabel and her sister Alice went with her and lived out their lives there.
Mabel died in October 1953 at The Nook and is buried in the Magill Public Cemetery.
