Note: The Sheets brothers came to Gallia Co. from Virginia in 1806 and were among the first settlers in Guyan township. At that time wild beasts, including panthers, were plentiful; but there were no roads, schools, churches or mills. People had to grind their corn on a grater by hand. Many made their own clothing from flax and wool.
Note: Claudie Sheets believed that a John Sheets came from Germany with William Penn in 1682. He thought that the spelling might be Scheetz [although more probably Schutz]. He said that three boys came into Gallia Co. from Pennsylvania, Virginia and Ohio. Leonard Sheets settled near Vanwert co., Indiana.
He emphasized that the first Sheets came on the same ship as William Penn in 1682.
Note: Johann Sheetz went to Pennsylvania with William Penn. There were three brothers: John, William and Leonard Leonard has a connection with Vanwert Co. Claudie said that the three brothers went from Pennsylvania to Maryland to Virginia to Ohio. William settled Rocky Fork and Johns Creek while John settled right across the road from Bethlehem Church on Rocky Fork.
