Note: William and Helen, both born in England, migrated to New Jersey in the 1887 and became naturalized citizens about 1892.
In the 1900 census of New Jersey, we find that the Buttfield family had been in the US for thirteen years. William and Helen had had all of their children in New Jersey except Alfred, who was born in Croyden, England. Willliam "Gibson" had not yet been born. The Buttfields had the ample support of three servants and a nurse.
By 1930 all of the Buttfield children had left home; it was just William 67 and Helen 66 at home with two servants. They owned their home, which was worth $10,000.
