Shep's Place Family Tree

One source indicates that Jesse came to Gallia County, Ohio from Lynchburg, Virginia about 1830 when his son Murwood was about nine years old.

1850 Harrison Twp: Jesse was 65 years and a laborer who was born in Virginia. His wife Mary was 60 years, also born in Virginia. Neither of them could read or write. They were farming in Harrison township. Their son John, 22 years old, was living with them.

1860 Green Twp: Jesse Burnett had moved to Green township to live with his son Warren after Susan's death. Jesse's age was written "65," but in fact it should have been closer to 75!

Also in the household was Edward Burnett 21 years old. He had been born in Ohio and owned real estate worth $550.00 He was the son of Warren's brother Vintner Burnett, who had died in the 1849 cholera epidemic.
