Shep's Place Family Tree

In 1900 Monroe, a farmer in Guyan Twp., was 46 years old and a widower with four young children: Virgie, Chancy, Leathy and Leonard. Their mother had died six years earlier when Leonard was about two years old.

Addie Dixon, a widow aged 36 years and mother of six children, was a "servant--housekeeper" in the household in 1900. I'm sure that Monroe needed plenty of help with those children.

It is interesting but not surprising that ten years later by April of 1910 Monroe and Addie had married. He was then 53 years old, and Addie 44. They had been married for two years. Addie had had eight children all of whom were living. They had the following children at home: Walter 12, Sadie ten, Jonnie seven and Edith four.

They lived next to the Heber and Elizabeth Martt farm.

Monroe's children Chauncey 22, Leathy 18, and Leonard 16 were farming on their own in Guyan Twp. in 1910.

In 1920 Monroe, once again a widower, now aged 62 years, owned his own home, and three of his children there: John 17, Edith 13 and Monroe seven.

Monroe died in1928 and is buried in Bethlehem Cemetery next to his first wife Augusta Russell and their first child, Mattie, who died when about two years old.
