Note: Although Emma Cane had no children ot her own, she raised the daughter of her brother, Charles. Emma Elizabeth Cane, named for her Aunt Emma, was born in Adelaide, South Australia. When she was just a toddler her parents took her to England to visit relatives. In January 1860, while visiting the Cane family in Amersham, Emma's mother died suddenly of apoplexy, which was probably a complication of pregnancy. Charles obviously felt that his life was to be in Australia; however, he decided to leave little Emma with his father and sister rather than to take her with him to Australia. As it happened, Emma never did return to Australia; although she kept in touch with her Australian relatives.
Emma Cane Sr. married Jacob Davies, a retired grocer who became a "town missionary" in Wokingham. They later moved to Eastern Avenue in Reading, where they had a large house with a thatched roof.
Young Emma inherited that home from her aunt and lived out her life there. She would also have received an inheritance from her father, Charles Cane.
