Note: Charles F. Day was born in pre-Civil War Virginia, although he always said, "West Virginia." His parents were also born in West Virginia, as were his wife Columbia's. In 1880 in Belpre, Ohio, Charles is a "steward." He and Columbia have two children Carrie two years and Charles six months. Both children were born in Ohio.
By 1900 Charles, widowed, was heading a boarding house in Gallipolis, Ohio. There were nine boarders, one lodger and a cook besides Charles' daughter Carrie D. 32 yrs, her husband Frank R. Bell (born Robert Francis Bell) 37 yrs and their two children Virginia 11 and Ellen 9.
Among the boarders was Albert H. "Dick" Brown, a riverboat captain, divorced. With Dick were his two children, Mary Louise and George.
