Note: GUTHRIE - Elizabeth, wife of Rev. F. Guthrie and daughter of Rev. Edward Hughes, of Kanawha Co., West Va., was born March 20th, 1802, and died June 18th, 1874, in Cheshire, Gallia Co., Ohio. The deceased was a woman of no ordinary mind, and though her youth was nurtured in the "early times," and in a communiuty where the appliances of mental culture were meager; yet, by general reading and thought, she had attained to no ordinary degree of mental acquirement. She was a woman of strong domestic feeling, seeking ever to beautify her home with vine and shrub and flower; choosing rather to preside within its quiet precincts than to shine in society, her worth was known only to those who knew her best. She yielded up all the sacred memories that linger around a permanent home, becoming a faithful co-worker with her companion in the hardships peculiar to the life of the early Methodist preachers. Thirteen children were born to bless a marriage union of nearly fifty-three years; eleven of them grown to adult life, all yet surviving, save one who lies in an unknown grave at Arlington Heights. Her patience in sickness was wonderful, and her death peaceful.
