Biographical Notes |
Note: In searching for Rhoda Sanders, I found her family in Mason township in the 1850 census. Her father John was 28 years old in the 1850 census. He had been born in Virginia, but her mother, Polly 25, had been born in Ohio. Rhoda was the oldest child, aged seven; she had a sister Lucy four; and two brothers, William two and Andrew I. one. In 1860 the Sanders family consisted of John M. 40, a farmer with real estate owned valued at $1,000 and personal assets at $350. Mary 40 yrs had a family of three girls and four boys: Rhoda H. 15, Lucy J. 12, William 11, Jackson ten, Joseph F. seven, Patience S. three and Isaiah W. one.
By 1880 most of the children had left home. Those in the household were John and Mary plus "Tacky," daughter 23 and Isaiah 19. Mary by then 50 years old was disabled (not able to perform her usual duties) by paralysis. She may have had a stroke.
John died in 1883 and is buried in J.M. Sanders Cemetery, which is on land
