Note: In 1860 the Phelps family was living in Bloom Township, Fairfield Co., Ohio where Silas 35 yrs was farming. He owned $200 of real estate and $100 of personal estate. His wife Lavina 33 yrs had three children at home: John J. six, who had attended school during the year; Silas T., three years; and Mary E. Foor, one. A day laborer who helped Silas on the farm was John H. Slough. John owned $25 in personal estate.
(By June 1870, both Silas and little Mary had died and Lavina was then managing a large household in Pickaway Co., Ohio.)
