Note: 1841: The Joseph Briggs family was settled in the parish of Ecclesfield on the road of High Green. Joseph 55 years was an agricultural labourer. Sarah 40 years had a large family to care for: Elizabeth 15; John 15, coal miner; Sarah 15; Thomas 13; Joseph eleven; Henry nine; Ann five and Ellen two. I do not know why the first three children were all given the age of 15 years. I doubt that they were triplets, but you never know. Everyone was born in the county of Yorkshire.
1851: Joseph was 67 years old and Sarah was 51. Joseph was "Late Farm Manager of Baily." He was born in Wath, Yorkshire. Everyone else was born in Ecclesfield. Their children were Joseph 21, coal miner; Henry 19; Ann 15, a scholar; and Margaret eight, a scholar.
Also in the household were Joseph's brother-in-law George Davy, 50 years old and single, a coal miner, born in Rotherham, Yorkshire. Young Will Jones 15 years was a lodger.
Next door to the Joseph Briggs were son Thomas 23, his wife Sarah 21 and baby Elizabeth one year old.
