28 November 1855 On the 26th instant, Jemima, the beloved wife of Mr Joel Horwood of Hindley-street west, in the 52nd year of her age [died]. Deeply regretted by her family and friends.
Biographical Notes
Note: In the 1841 English census taken in Oldham, Lancashire, Joel was a millwright aged 39 years, who was married to Jemima Butler. Their address was Grosvenor street, Oldham. There they had seven children: John 16, also a millwright; Ann 14; Joel nine; Jemima seven; Sarah four; Thomas two and Joseph four months. All of the children were born in Lancashire, but Joel and Jemima were born elsewhere.
Seven years later the Horwoods arrived in Adelaide, South Australia on the ship Baboo. They resided in the city of Adelaide on Hindley-street west with their four sons and three daughters.
