Note: Photograph of ChanS.C. ("Chan") Wilhelm of Point Pleasant, W.Va. S.C. Wilhelm, purchasing agent of the Marietta Manufacturing Company, Point Pleasant, W.Va., was born on March 18, 1886 at Marietta, Ohio, and in due course became a graduate of the New York University where he majored in commerce, accounts, and finance. His first job was as assisant auditor with the New York store, Lord and Taylor. While with the Manhattan Elevated Improvements, Inc., he returned to Marietta, Ohio, for a visit during which a boyhood friend, the late Walter A. Windsor, persuaded him to join in a reorganizationof the Marietta Manufacturing Company.
In December, 1915, the Marietta Manufacturing Company of Ohio was reincorporated in West Virginia, Mr. Wilhelm becoming secretary. In 1916, the plant having been established at Point Pleasant, Mr. Wilhelm located in that city. In 1918 Mr. Wilhelm was married to Miss Sue Heslop, a sister of Mrs. Milton L. Miller and Col. Robert J. Heslop, prominent citizens of Point Pleasant. Mr. and Mrs. Wilhelm have two daughters, Mrs. E. Bartow Jones II, of Point Pleasant, and Mrs. Charles E. Holzer, Jr., of Cincinnati.
Mr. Wilhelm is always a busy man and with Marietta Manufacturing Company "all out" building ships for the war effort the demands upon his time have never been more exacting. As purchasing agent he nevertheless finds a few moments cordially to greet the many men who journey to point Pleasant hoping to sell their particular products to his company. In his few spare moments he enjoys good cigars, good food, and a game of cards.
On page 7 of The Waterways Journal there is a small feature article which says, SPECTACULAR LABOR DAY AT MARIETTA PLANT. Spectacular and patriotic-inspiring ceremonies were carried out before a large throng on Labor day by officials and guests of the Marietta Manufacturing Company, Point Pleasant, W.Va., which is building war vessels for both the Army and Navy. From photographs cuts will be made and in the next week's issue of The Waterways Journal there will be a special account---within the limits of censorship---by Donald T. Wright of St. Louis who was present as an invited guest.
