Deaths: Mary ‎(Jamieson)‎ Knight on 4 Aug 1829 aged 72. David Knight on 27 Jul 1813 aged 54 years. Both interred at the Abbey Burial Ground, Arbroath.

Hay's history of Arbroath states that David Knight ‎(1759 - 1813)‎ established his brewery ‎(one of the principle ones of the town)‎ at James Street. As the earlier generations of Knights were also brewers this was probably new premises. As the whole of the district was known as Almericlose from ancient times, the name was not exclusive by that of the Knight's house which had been built in 1793 by a James Watson and purchased from him by David Knight on 9 Feb 1808 ‎(record held by E.M.S.)‎ David also owned a whole row of cottages in James Street occupied by his work people.

In 1835 John Knight sold the Almericlose Mansion, houses, brewery and property in James Street, Almericlose, in four lots. John was David's son and had continued on from his father's death. The purchaser of the house was George Gibson who named it "Maulebank" and in due course James Street became Maule Street. John then opened a new brewery in Heller Street and lived at Maule Cottage until the family emigrated to South Australia in 1851. In 1973, the then owner of "Maulebank" mansion rescued a number of old records of the Knight brewery. This was George Smith, since deceased, with whom Hector Knight of S.A. stayed. Mr. Smith gave Hector copies of the old records now held by E.M.S. They are too extensive to include here. Hector reported that "Maulebank" is a lovely spacious house restored to perfection by the Smiths.
