 Note: Serjeant Edward Kauntze sailed with his wife and five children from London to India on the Indiaman "Atlas".
Edward's wife, Sarah Ann, was 6 months pregnant when the ship departed and baby Charlotte was born on 29 April 1819.
Tragically, the voyage took its toll on their son Frederick who died at sea on 24 June.
India also took its toll on Sarah Ann who lived only two more years dying in Cawnpore in 1821.
Edward married again shortly after to the widow, Elizabeth, of his fellow Serjeant in the 11th Light Dragoons, Richard Kilner. Elizabeth and Richard had also sailed on the "Atlas" with their daughter, Sarah.
Further tragedy struck when Elizabeth and Edward both died in 1822 leaving the surviving children orphans in India.
