His occupation in the 1880 census was listed as engineer. Perhaps he was working as engineer on a steam boat on the Ohio River. His brother, Harrison W, gave his occupation as "laborer on boat". David A was a school teacher and Mary E was "without occupation". 1900 Waggener District, Mason Co, West Virginia: Jane had probably died by this time and George was living with his brother-in-law, Mathew Brown, in Mason, West Virginia, along with his nephew Miles and nieces Jennie and Alice Brown. He was working as an engineer on a steam boat.
