1880 Letart Township, Meigs Co, Ohio: Between 1870 and 1880 George had been married and widowed and was back living with his mother. His occupation in the 1880 census was listed as engineer. Perhaps he was working as engineer on a steam boat on the Ohio River. His brother, Harrison W, gave his occupation as "laborer on boat". David A was a school teacher and Mary E was "without occupation".

1900 Waggener District, Mason Co, West Virginia: Jane had probably died by this time and George was living with his brother-in-law, Mathew Brown, in Mason, West Virginia, along with his nephew Miles and nieces Jennie and Alice Brown. He was working as an engineer on a steam boat.
