Hide Details Note: In the 1881 English census we find Pearce at the Lodge of Regent's Park College in Marylebone. He was then 19 years old. Pearce was a student at Regent's Park College from 1879 to 1883. At College he took the senior Greek Testament prize in his first year; and in his last year he took the senior Hebrew prize. He was a Ward's Trust Scholar throughout his college course. He passed an M.A. at London University in 1884.

His first charge was a Burnley Baptist Church in Lancashire ‎(Feb. 1887)‎ followed by Wolverhampton in May 1890, and later Loughborough.

At the time of the 1891 English census Pearce lived in Burnley, Lancashire. He was a 29-year-old widower Baptist minister who had a daughter aged one year. Her name was Edith D.G. Edith's mother Dora had died giving birth to her. Two servants helped in the house and with the baby.

It was in Burley that Pearce met Alice Hurtley who became his second wife later in 1891. They had three daughters, Elsie, Olive and Gladys.

From 1900 to 1907 the Careys lived in Melbourne, Victoria, in Australia. They moved quite often. Some of their residences were in Wolverhampton, Burnley, Stockton-on-Tees, Loughborough, Portsmouth and Calcutta.

Pearce published 'Samuel Pearce, the Baptist Brainerd' and 'William Carey, D.D., Fellow of Linnaean Society.' In the cover of the Carey book is written "Alfred Marshman 1925 A descendant of the Missionary".
