Her uncle John Skitch, also a cordwainer, also lived next door. Mary was the baby of the family at that time, but she had three older brothers and a sister: Humphry six, Mary five, and William three.

Biographical Notes

Young Elizabeth was one year old in the 1871 English census. Her father Humphry, a cordwainer, aged 27and her mother Mary 24 lived at 42 Higherend in Marhamchurch next door to grandfather Humphry Skitch and grandmother Elizabeth Fanson Skitch, who were at 41 Higherend. Her uncle John Skitch, also a cordwainer, also lived next door.
