Note: Una remembered her Grandma Boase as a tiny woman, who came to petite Una's shoulders. [Una herself was about five feet and two inches tall.] She loved her grandmother, who died in Millicent about the time that Una was married to Alan Shepherd
Millicent, July 23. A resident of Millicent for 62 years and a South Australian colonist of 86 years in the person of Mrs. Louisa Bant Boase, passed away at the residence of her daughter Mrs. E.J. Hann, on Tuesday morning. Her health had been feeble for the past three years and death was not unexpected. Mrs. Boase was born at Plymouth, England, on September 24, 1851, and landed at Port Adelaide from the ship "Oceania" at the age of two years. Her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Sloggett, were amongst the earliest arrivals in the district. They were living at Naracoorte when their elder daughter met and married the late Mr. Henry Boase, who died at Millicent 31 years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Boase resided at South End before settling at Millicent. There was a family of nine, six of whom survive. They are Messrs. T.J., W. H. and C.L. Boase of Millicent, F.W. of Meningie and E. Boase of Mount Gambier post office, and Mrs. E. J. Hann of Millicent. There are 19 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Apart from enthusiastic work for the Methodist Church, Mrs. Boase devoted herself to her home and children. Four grandsons acted as pallbearers at the funeral on Wednesday which was conducted by Rev. L. R. Barker.
Note: Louise Bant Boase died on 18th July 1939, aged 87 years. She was a widow. Her usual residence was Millicent, South Australia. She was born in Cornwall, but had resided in Australia for 83 years. She was 21 years old at her marriage and had had ten children.
The cause of death was senile dementia (10 months) and arteriosclerosis (years). She died in Millicent.
