Hide Details Note: 1851 Brighton, Sussex: William Buck 17 yrs was an apprentice engineer who lodged in the home of widow Sarah Miall at 9 Union St.

1861 South Hackney, London: William 27 yrs had finished his apprenticeship and was practising as a civil engineer. Still unmarried, he lived with his sister Mary L. Redley's family in London. ‎(Mary's husband Edwin 32 was a ship broker and auctioneer. Edwin and Mary L. 28 had a baby daughter named Mary L. Edwin had been born in Suffolk and Mary in East Dereham, Norfolk. The baby was born in Hackney.)‎

At this time in 1861 Annie Buttfield was caring for her nephews at the Jonathan and Sarah Buttfield Carey home at 8 The Paragon, Hackney. It is probable that she and William met at this time.

Also in the Redley household were Lucy Clayton "daughter," 25 from Bale, Norfolk; a niece Carolyn Esdell five years; and maid Elizabeth Whitechurch.

1871Streatham, Surrey: William 36 had married Annie Buttfield 34, and they had two children at their home at 25 Balham Road: William E. six and Arthur C. one. Arthur was born in Streatham. They also had two servants, one a nursemaid.

1881 Willesden, Middlesex: William 47 was a civil engineer. Annie 45 had three children at home: William E. 16, student of civil engineering; Arthur C. eleven, scholar; and Annie F. nine. All three children were said to have been born in Surrey at Upper Tooting.

1891 Worcester: William 59 was a civil engineer; Annie was 55; and Annie F. was 18. Their general servant was a sixteen-year-old girl named Elizabeth Stephens. Annie F.'s birthplace was given as "Balham, Surrey.

1901 Worcester: Annie F. 28 is still living at home with her parents, William 67 and Annie 65. William is a mechanical engineer ‎(worker)‎. They live at 24 Camp Hill Road.
