Hide Details Note: In 1841 James 35 was a miner. Sally 30 had four children at home: Sally five, Martha four, Mary three and James one. Was Sally busy?

In 1851 James and Sally were living at Camborne, an important mining town about halfway between St Ives and Redruth where James had been born. James 44 was listed as a copperminer. Sally, also 44, had the following young ones at home: Sally 16, a dressmaker; Martha O. 15, a milliner; Mary 13, a scholar; Henry 9 nine a scholar; and James five a scholar.

By the middle of the 1800s the mining boom in Cornwall was waning; and as a consequence, there began a huge wave of Cornish migration to other countries, including Australia.

James came to Australia with his family on the 700 ton barque sailing ship "Standard". It departed on 9 September 1854 with 315 men women and children on board. There were 10 deaths during the voyage and 7 births. It arrived in Adelaide on 17 December after 99 days at sea.
