Hide Details Note: Lewis Thornton, Retired Farmer Dies Suddenly

Lewis Stanley Thornton, 68, retired Mercerville farmer died Sun. eve. at Holzer Hospital, 24 hours after he was admitted as a patient. Thornton was a native of Gallia County, having been born in Guyan Tp., the son of the late Thomas and Tennessee C. Sheets Thornton. He was a veteran of WW1.

Survivors, include his wife, the former Mary Ann Burnette; two sons & two daughters, Melba Thornton & Joan Dayton, both of Gallipolis; Thomas of Gallipolis & Dale Burnette of Mercerville; one brother, Cecil of near Crown City & Mrs. Asa Rucker, Columbus & seven grandchilren.

Funeral services have been tentatively set for 2 p.m. Wed. at Mercerville Church, with Rev. Earl Cremeens officiating. Burial will be in Ridgelawn Cemetery. The body is at the C.R. Halley Funeral Home.
