Biographical Notes	Note: In the English census of 1871 when Rose was six years old and her brother Charles was only four years old, they were both boarding scholars at Speldhurst which was a little village in Kent between Ashurst, where his parents lived, and larger Southborough. The school mistress was a widow named Sarah Porter, 46 years old. Four and six years seem terribly young to leave the family home for a boarding school.
