Biographical Notes	Note: 1871: When Charles was only four years old, he was a boarding scholar at Speldhurst a little village in Kent between Ashurst, where his parents lived, and larger Southborough. The school mistress was a widow named Sarah Porter, 46 years old. Charles' sister, Rose Caffyn, six years old, was also boarding at the school. Having grown up in an extended family of millers, it is no surprise that Charles became a miller. In 1891 he was 24 yrs and living in his parents home in Ashurst; but by 1901 he had married Kate who had been born in his grandfather's home of Withyham, Sussex. He was a "flour miller".
