In the 1880 federal census the Nidays were still in Benton township of Wayne county. John was 55, and Eveline C. 46. They had five sons and a daughter at home: John Kirk 21, farming; Cornelius 18, farming; James 14; Asbury 12; Maggie ten and Oscar six. The younger children were attending school.
